SINGING AT UNION CHAPEL ON 2
MAY
– DO COME!
ICS has been invited to
sing at the inauguration of Union Chapel as a re-opened arts venue on TUESDAY 2
MAY
PLEASE NOTE THAT AS A RESULT THERE WILL BE NO REGULAR REHEARSAL AT CHRIST CHURCH
ON TUESDAY 2 MAY.
** I’d like to encourage
ANYONE who is interested and available to join us at Union Chapel. This does
include anyone who isn’t able to sing with us regularly at the moment but would
like to take part in this special performance. You don’t have to be a current
choir member (or pay a subs!) **
We look like having at
least 40-50 singers but the more the merrier!
DETAILS:
- We are
performing four of the Bruckner motets which we sang at our Easter concert
last year, and also sang on the tour to Southern Bohemia. They are Nos 1
(Ave Maria), 4 (Locus Iste), 5 (Tota Pulchra es) and 6 (Os Justi). They are
unaccompanied, and only last 2-3 minutes each. We are using the Peters
Edition ‘Geistliche Chore’ by Bruckner; we will have 50 hired scores
available but if you own one please bring it along.
- We
will be rehearsing the motets at the second half of this week’s rehearsal
(Tuesday 25 April) – ie from about 8:45. It isn’t compulsory to be at
this rehearsal if you know the motets and would like to sing at the chapel.
- The
event is a multi-faith service, which will start at 7:30. Not sure how long
at the moment. We’re invited to join in the hymns as well. We plan to be up
in the gallery to enable us to be as close together as possible when we
sing.
- If you
can, please get to Union Chapel by 7:00 when we will have a sing-through of
each of the motets to get our bearings before the audience arrives.
- Dress is smart
casual (not concert dress). But as far as possible, please wear black or
dark clothing - with white shirts/blouses if desired - so we have some
homogeneity.
- Union
Chapel is on Compton Terrace, Upper Street, London N1. It has a very
prominent red brick church tower with a clock. It is 2 minutes from Highbury
& Islington Tube station, and on bus routes 4 19 30 43 271 277 279
- Union
Chapel was and will be a major international level arts venue on our own
doorstep, and we are very keen to develop a good working relationship with
the chapel. We will be performing our Christmas Messiah concert there, and
hope to continue using it whenever we want to stage a slightly bigger
concert. Do help us!
