Founded in 1973, Islington
Choral Society is an unauditioned choir based in North London; it has
performed works which cover most of the choral repertoire - early, modern,
religious and secular.
Most of the society's three regular
performances a year are held in churches and halls in Islington; concerts
have also taken place at the Finsbury Leisure Complex. It has also
performed twice in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the South Bank and has,
with Hillingdon Choral Society, performed larger works in both London
boroughs and abroad in Germany and in France.
In May 1998 two very
successful performances took place to large audiences in the well-known
(and enormous) Parisian churches, St Sulpice and St Germain les Auxerrois.

May 2000 The Paris tour was
so popular that we followed with a tour to Normandy, based on Caen with
performances of Schubert's Mass in G and Durufle's Requiem
in Bayeux Cathedral, Eglise de Saint-Aubin-sur Mer and Rouen
Cathedral.

Concerts in London are accompanied by full
orchestra, instrumental ensemble or organ. Players and soloists are
carefully selected and the Society has a reputation for helping young
musicians just embarking on their careers.
Four key elements make
Islington Choral Society special:
 | We are unauditioned;
anyone who enjoys choral singing is welcome. |
 | We are a mixed group
of people of all ages and backgrounds. |
 | However, we aim for and achieve high standards of musical performance
thanks to the expert direction of Michael and Philip. |
 | Finally we have a strong, loyal
membership many of whom have been with the choir for many
years, ensuring its continuation by regular attendance and membership
of the committee. |
